A: Yes, it is very easy to get around camp. Although the camp sits on 42 acres, you will be able to find your way around very easily. Our camp is uncomplicated in layout/ design. During orientation there will be plenty of time to walk around and get adjusted, and yes, there will be a tour. If you get lost, just ask one of the returning staff, and they will be able to help you find your way. Also, camp maps are available in the camp office.
Q: What are the campers like?
A: Obviously, there are a variety of personalities here at camp. From a more general perspective, the campers that come to Camp Pocono Ridge are adventurous in spirit, warm hearted and easy to know so long as they feel they can trust you. As long as you show respect towards your campers and are able to remain calm in what may sometimes seem like complicated situations, they will respect you as a counselor and as a friend.
Q: When will I get time off?
A: Yes, on a rotation basis staff will have days and nights “off duty.” Nights off typically start at 7pm and end between midnight and 12:30. Days off start at breakfast and end at evening line-up right before dinner. You will be assigned to a bunk/group during staff orientation week where you will find out what nights off you have been assigned, what day off you will have and who will be with you on this time off. We try to work this as best as possible for the camp program and staff.

Q: Are we allowed to use the camp facilities that we are not directly in charge of?
A: You are welcome to use the facilities on your off time so long as your use does not interfere or take away from our campers activity programs. In the past, counselors have decided to spend their “day off” at camp relaxing, swimming, or sunbathing. Uses of activity areas are allowed and as long as the use is cleared by a director.
Q: Is there laundry available at camp?
A: There will be laundry service available for you to use along with your camper’s laundry. There are no facilities available for private use.
Q: What are the rules regarding “significant others” on and off camp?
A: What you do on your off time, as long as it does not bring shame to the Camp Pocono Ridge name/program, is your time. However, it is our understanding that we have hired adults, and as adults, staff is expected to keep personal and private relationships, in pursuit, consummated or otherwise, personal and private. Campers are children and need not be informed about the counselor staff social scene. This includes PDA’s while on duty or on camp property.
Q: Can I have visitors?
A: No, visitors may pick you up when you are off duty, but they must stay in the camp office. Our camp is a private facility and tours are not permitted while camp is in session.
Q: Is the staff allowed to drink on their time off?
A: The legal drinking age is 21. Your time off is your time off, and proper discretion is to be used. But know this...you are NOT to come back to camp intoxicated. Upon returning to camp from a night off duty there will be senior staff at check-in to ensure that all staff members are able to return straight back to work to take care of our children. There is a strict policy - no alcohol on camp. We ask if you do choose to go out regardless that you do not bring any negative attention to Camp Pocono Ridge. This will be further discussed during orientation.
Q: What do I do if I have a camper emergency in the middle of the night?
A: Although this will all be covered in orientation, the nurse and the camp directors will be available for you and campers at all hours of the night.
Q: What else should I know?
A: A full list of staff policies is available upon application. Those who do not agree to abide by these policies should email to withdraw their application. We’d happy to answer any questions you may have at the camp office 732-521-4796.
