Mealtime is a celebration. Great food, a little music, a table full of friends and the feeling of family; that’s what each meal brings at Camp Pocono Ridge. We sit family style, face to face among friends and family. We talk about the day, share funny stories, listen to music and eat... boy do we eat...the food here is REALLY GOOD, it's also healthy but still tastes good and with so much to do around camp each day, we need the energy.
Breakfast is served to fuel the body and provide a healthy start for the days activities. Eggs to order is a favorite breakfast. Lunch comes just in time and is always followed by a terrific rest hour. Dinner is family time. Campers recall the days events, fill each other in on what happened where, staff enjoy the comedy show that ultimately prevails and time is given to bring us all together. Margarita pizzas for lunch, and Hawaiian chicken served with pineapple/mango salsa and rice pilaf is a common request for dinner (that and the fresh baked chicken w/corn-on-the-cob).
Mealtime, more than any other time, helps secure our sense of family and community. Sundays are special with Cookout, a family tradition for 50 years. We serve Black Angus beef, chicken and veggie burgers, along with all beef hot dogs, fresh fruit salad and potato chips. Mealtime is time to relax, enjoy the company, fill our stomachs with nutrition and recall the days events. Here all are welcome, but call ahead so we have plenty of shrimp scampi!
Meals are really good here because they are made fresh daily. We use wholesome foods, fresh fruits, salads and locally grown veggies. We serve whole wheat and enriched breads and pastas, bake fresh cakes and muffins, and really enjoy preparing meals for our family. We serve wholesome foods that taste great. We NEVER serve institutional or pre-made meals, everything is made fresh, baked or bought from the local farmers markets. We never eat canned vegetables (not that we are judging), soups are made from scratch and sandwiches are created just before being served. Picking eaters always find something good to eat, multiple selection meals are the norm, and food allergies are rarely a problem.
Our dedicated chef & kitchen staff prepare every meal under the watchful eye, and most often hands-on direction, of our camp director. In fact, it is not unusual to see Shellie making Italian spaghetti & meatballs in the kitchen with a group of campers. Maybe that's
why cooking/baking class is a favorite.
